Q: I’m very nervous about high school and I am not good with meeting new people. I also know some people who are going to school with me, but I don’t like them. How could I get less nervous, and what should I do about the people I know?
A: This is a very common thing to be nervous about going to a new school. Don’t feel like you are the only one because you’re not. There are many reasons having people you know at your school is a good thing even if you don’t particularly like them. It’s good to have people there you know because the first few days you might not meet anyone and you can always hang out with them. Some things to think about before going to high school are always doing your homework so you don’t fall behind, meeting with counselors to feel more comfortable, and going to school events to meet more people.
Q: I am very self conscious about my body. I don’t like shopping with people because they might make fun of the sizes I get of clothing. I also don’t wear a bathing suit in front of others because people make me feel even worse about my body. How should I get over this?
A: I know this can be hard to hear, but people who make you feel bad about your body or anything else are just self conscious themselves. They take it out on someone else to make them feel better about themselves which is very bad. I would try and surround yourself with people who you trust and who you know would not judge you for your body image.
